Moonshot Mapping Digital Art | Met Lev Manovich, Remco van Bladel & Mariana Lanari

MU Hybrid Art House · Torenallee 40-06 | 5617 BD | Eindhoven
__________________ What does the landscape of digital culture in the Netherlands look like in 2026? Who creates and researches, who presents what, where and how? Which institutions archive, and how do they relate to comparable networks abroad? At the request of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), Moonshot Digitale Cultuur will map this field over the coming months. In doing so, we want to involve the Moonshot community as directly as possible. As a kick-off, we therefore invite everyone who wants to contribute ideas and get involved to come together during Dutch Design Week at MU Hybrid Art House. Doors open at 18.00 with soup and a sandwich, followed by the start of the programme at 18.30. The first speaker is the renowned digital artist and researcher Lev Manovich, whose essay Seven Worlds of Digital Art was recently published. In it, he outlines not only the exponential growth of digital art since the 1990s, but also the different 'worlds' into which he believes the field has now become divided. Do we recognise the worlds he distinguishes here as well? And to what extent can we incorporate them into the Moonshot mapping we want to create? Next, together with Mariana Lanari and Remco van Bladel, founders of Archival Consciousness, we will look at experimental systems for digital archiving that they are developing in collaboration with cultural organisations, such as the Mobile Archive Unit, Biblio-Graph.org, Publish and NADD.network. After a short break, Paulien Dresscher and Angelique Spaninks will engage in conversation with everyone present in a fishbowl format to gather as many ideas and perspectives as possible to inform both the mapping and the analysis. What are the challenges? Where do opportunities lie? What role should Moonshot play? If you would like to join the conversation, please register by 19 October at the latest via this link. 💬 This event will be held in English *** And last but not least: make sure to mark the IDFA Moonshot Mixer on 17 November at the end of the day in your calendar. More on this later!*
